Should Baseball Players Bench Press

Should Baseball Players Bench?

The classic question of whether or not baseball players should bench; I hear this question at least twice a week. My answer: yes and no.  The answer is neither yes or no because there are a lot of people in this world (baseball, overhead athlete, non sport athletes…) that honestly shouldn’t bench. Why? because they don’t know to bench PROPERLY. I will go out on a limb and say anyone that doesn’t know how to bench shouldn’t bench, and anyone that knows how to bench properly should. Follow along as I lay to rest all the claims made against baseball players and benching. IMG_1243_1.jpg

Improving your bench press requires key bench press cues, and smart exercise programming. Whether you want to admit it or not, it’s nice to have a big bench. There are plenty of people who train in the gym to have a big bench, a big chest, and big arms, but never see any progress. They feel as if they are always at a “Plateau”. It is safe to say, if you fall into this category you are making these 5 fatal mistakes. But don’t worry, your not alone.

Bench Press, The Right Way

How to bench properly

It’s Monday at the gym which can only mean one thing: “chest and tris” for 90% of the typical gym goers in America. Nearly every one of the chest and tri doers will start their workout with a variation of the bench press, whether incline or flat, dumbbells or barbell. Now I’ll be the first to admit that I use to split up my workout routines like the rest of society, before I came to the brighter side. Now this post isn’t meant to make fun of people that split up workouts this way, it’s meant to be educational. By the end of this article you should actually know, or at least have a better understanding, of what muscles you really recruit while benching and how to bench properly.

  • What Training at 1RM Performance Really Means

It's not every day that a summer intern is also a former athlete I've been lucky enough spedn 5 years working with. Here is the story I've asked Alex Lashkari to share about his 5 years of growth with me within and outside of the walls of 1RM Performance. If you're a coach and read this, you'll know just how special it is to actually sit back and see in words the impact that you've had on a kids life. I go to sleep each night looking forward to the next day in the gym. This is exactly why!

Training at 1RM Performance for the past 5 years has influenced me far beyond the gym. Late into my sophomore year of high school I met Bobby through a teammate of mine and quickly became fond of everything that 1RM represented. As many new members of the gym can attest to, initial experiences with Bobby can be very humbling as well as revealing. Unfortunately, the epic lifts done during weight training P.E. do not translate the same at 1RM.
